Episode #14: Scooters and Smiles

As you may have seen in our announcement a while ago, the location for Hacker Beach this coming January has been officially confirmed, according to our traditional process of a couple of hackers booking the first flights.

Feel free to join us for a month of hacking and fun, far away from cold weather and frowny faces, on the gorgeous island of Koh Lanta in the Land of Smiles!

The deal is the same as always: book your own travels, find your own accommodations (or share with fellow hackers), and bring your own projects/work. However, if you stay on Koh Lanta anytime within the month of January, there will be other hackers around, who are happy to meet up and nerd out from time to time.

Getting there, etc.

Thailand is easily one of the most accessible Hacker Beach host countries to date, so most of you should have no trouble getting to Koh Lanta.

You can find links to visa details, travel routes to the island, and other relevant information on our wiki page for Episode 14. (Due to annoyingly persistent spam bots, editing currently requires an account. Please contact us on IRC or XMPP if you want to sign up for editing it.)

Tip: Wikivoyage also has extensive info about the island.

Accommodations

You can often get the best deals for rooms by just walking in to places and forgoing the booking platforms that add extra fees for the host. If you want to book online, in addition to the usual sites, it’s always a good idea to also browse e.g. Agoda when traveling in Asia.

On Koh Lanta, you can find anything from very cheap rooms all the way up to luxury resorts. So there should be something available for every budget.

Questions?

Great! Ask us on the Fediverse, on Nostr, or in #hackerbeach on libera.chat. And if you’re planning to actually come to Hacker Beach (or you’re already there), please request an invite to our private XMPP channel.

See you by the beach!
